Devilish Grin

Sketchy sketch of a troll I did on a paper bag at work. I had fun trying to make him craggy and unappealing... I think he looks somewhere between Mephisto and Gorgutz. I had the idea whilst being grumpy and reading bad fanfiction. What if, to remove all of the angst in the setting, every faery, troll, ghastie, and other magical creature simply stopped hiding? What if they started walking amongst humans, unglamoured? What if, when they did, nobody noticed?

Troex Ratflask is a troll. He likes goats, both to eat and to pet. He smokes horrendous cigars. He's been living side-by-side with humans for nearly five years now, since he pioneered the "Why Not?" anti-hiding movement, with the simple act of refusing to put on a false face to go into the corner liquor store. He designs whimsical statues for landscaping companies for a living. Other Fae call him anything between the scum of the earth and their savior. The humans he works with just think he's a bit odd. He tells them all the truth, that he's a troll. They don't believe him, or if they do, they don't care.

I wonder. If he passed you in the street, would your first thought -really- be "Holy smokes, there goes a troll"?
